Steal An Egg Rifts Update — Abyss Overlord, Boss Tokens & Rift Eggs

The Steal An Egg Rifts update guide covers 30-minute Rifts, the two-phase Abyss Overlord boss, Boss Tokens, Boss Shop, Boss Mastery, Rift Sacrifices, Banners.

9/7/2026 Update #3 Last updated: 9/7/2026 6 min read

What is the Rifts update?

Rifts is the third major update for Steal An Egg (Update #3), following Monsters Are Coming (Update #2). It went live on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 8:42 PM UTC. The changelog, published by the developers on the official Discord, announces it as:

Strange Rifts are tearing open across the world…

In practice, that means a new repeatable boss loop: Rift portals open across the map every 30 minutes, lead to the Abyss Overlord boss, and pay Boss Tokens that feed a new Boss Shop and a Boss Mastery track. Two more features, Rift Sacrifices and rotating Rift Banners, offer Rift-exclusive eggs and pets. The update shipped with a full server reset, and it added no new biome — Rifts reuse the existing map, which is why the farthest zones you already unlocked matter most.

Launch-window note: the September 5 launch also included temporary admin-run events — admins raining random rewards from the sky, plus boosted earning, egg size and treadmill speed. Those were launch-day events, not permanent features, and had ended by the time of this guide’s checks.

How does the Abyss Overlord boss fight work?

The Rifts are portals with a purple glow, and most of them open at the farthest biomes on the map — Titan Temple and Cherry Blossom are the two hotspots seen in launch footage. When a Rift is about to spawn, the server announces it; footage shows an in-game warning along the lines of “Abyss Overlord is spawning in 30 seconds.”

The boss fight itself runs in two phases:

  • Phase 1 — destroy the Crystals. The Abyss Overlord is surrounded by Crystals. Break all of them before you can meaningfully damage the boss.
  • Phase 2 — limbs, then the body. Once the Crystals are down, you destroy the Overlord’s limbs and then attack the body directly.

Defeating the Overlord pays out Boss Tokens, up to 1,500 per kill. [Unconfirmed] Exactly how that maximum is reached — whether the payout depends on damage dealt, who lands the final hit or participation — has not been published; the 1,500 figure is the ceiling quoted in the patch coverage.

Boss Tokens and the Boss Shop

Boss Tokens are the currency of the update: you earn them from the Abyss Overlord and spend them in the Boss Shop. The official changelog says the shop holds exclusive rewards, including a chance to apply a new Fractured Mutation to eggs you have already placed.

Launch footage (Insoogle, day one) showed four items in the shop:

  • Treadmill booster
  • 1.2x speed
  • Cash booster
  • Mutation consumable — 400 tokens

[Unconfirmed] That is a partial list, not the full catalog: the four items above are what one launch-day run happened to show, and the exact effects of the 400-token mutation consumable were not explained on camera.

Boss Mastery

Boss Mastery is a second reward track tied to the same boss fights. Each boss defeat earns Boss Mastery Points; in launch footage the counter awarded one point per kill, and the game’s HUD gained a new Boss Mastery icon with the update. Advancing along the track unlocks increasingly rare rewards, and the official changelog names Fractured Mutated Eggs as one of them — the further you progress, the better the rewards.

[Unconfirmed] What sits at each milestone beyond Fractured Mutated Eggs, and how many points each step needs, have not been published.

Rift Sacrifices

A new, mysterious Rift appears in the lobby (the safe zone) and randomly asks for 3 animals. When you sacrifice all three requested animals, you receive one exclusive Rift Egg. The patch coverage names three Rift Egg types — Riftborn Egg, Riftbeast Egg and Shattered Rift Egg — so the egg you receive is one of these three.

[Unconfirmed] Which animals the Rift requests (and whether any animal qualifies), which of the three eggs you get, and what hatches from each egg have not been officially published.

Rift Banners

Rift Banners are the update’s rotating gacha-style event: 3 different banners, each containing 5 rare animals that can only be obtained from Rifts. The active banner rotates every 3 hours, and the rotation is synchronized across all servers, so every server shows the same banner at the same time.

[Unconfirmed] The animal list of each banner and the odds inside them have not been published.

Titan Temple is now a Rift hotspot

Rifts connect the update to Update #2’s content: Titan Temple, the jungle zone that arrived with Monsters Are Coming, is now one of the most common Rift spawn areas along with Cherry Blossom. Players who unlocked the far end of the map in Update #2 are exactly the players who see the most Rift action, since the portals favor the farthest biomes.

Newer players working toward those zones can follow the beginner guide, and anyone still farming the previous update’s loop can keep using the Monster Chest guide alongside the update overview for Monsters Are Coming.

Are there any Rift codes?

No. Update #3 shipped without a code system or redemption menu, and source checks on September 4 still found no Steal An Egg codes. The game has never had an official codes system — see the codes status page for the full check history.

What is still unconfirmed?

  • Fractured Mutation’s exact effects — the changelog confirms it exists but gives no numbers, and footage does not explain them.
  • Rift Egg drop rates and hatch pools — no data has been published.
  • The full Boss Shop catalog (only four items have been observed, all in launch footage).
  • How the 1,500-token maximum payout is calculated.
  • Rift Banner animal lists, rotation schedule and odds.
  • Boss Mastery milestone rewards and point thresholds.
  • How the lobby Rift picks its 3 requested animals.
