Crane in Steal An Egg: Get the Pet & Unlock Sakura Incubator

How to get a Crane in Steal An Egg: hatch its pink-capped Cherry Blossom egg, feed it to the Sakura Incubator, and farm crystals for Bloom or Spirit Bloom.

What is a Crane in Steal An Egg?

The Crane is the Cherry Blossom pet that unlocks the egg-mutation system in Steal An Egg. It is listed as an Epic pet, and third-party marketplace listings on eldorado.gg show it earning roughly $4K per second — treat marketplace figures as a reference and always confirm the live value in-game, since pet stats can drift between updates. The same $4K per second record appears on the pets index, which tracks every confirmed pet by biome and rarity.

The Crane matters less for that income than for what it does at the end of the Cherry Blossom zone. The Sakura Incubator — a mysterious machine at the very end of the path — needs one Crane to activate. Feed it a Crane and you unlock the Cherry Blossom Crystals event, which lets you mutate eggs and add mutations to the pets inside them. Pets further up the Cherry Blossom rarity ladder earn far more than the Crane, which is why most players treat it as the key to the mutation system rather than a long-term earner.

How do you get a Crane in Steal An Egg?

Getting a Crane is straightforward once you can extract eggs from the Cherry Blossom zone — the hardest zone currently in the game. The recommended Speed level to steal eggs there safely is 2.5 billion, and you will want at least an Eternal Trail equipped so the zone’s guardian, the Kitsune, cannot stop you on the way out. Below that Speed the Kitsune can outrun you, and getting caught usually costs you the egg.

Once you can complete Cherry Blossom runs, watch the eggs you pick up. You are looking for a white egg with a black and pink line through its centre and a pink cap — that shell pattern produces a Crane. Get that egg back to your base, hatch it, and the Crane is added to your inventory. From then on the choice is yours: keep it as an earner, or carry it back into the zone to unlock the Sakura Incubator.

If your Speed is still below the recommendation, redeeming whatever is currently active on the codes page is free value before a long grind, and the Steal An Egg guide explains how to plan a return route and train Speed before you commit to a pickup.

Yes, and the trick is the Kitsune’s own behaviour. If you can pick up an egg and at least make it out of the Cherry Blossom zone without the Kitsune hitting you, you will notice it does not return a dropped egg to its nest. Leave an egg on the floor and the guardian ignores it — it will not carry it back, which gives you room to recover the egg once the Kitsune retreats.

Use that: run the egg back in short bursts — pick it up, run, drop it every few seconds, wait for the Kitsune to retreat, then continue toward spawn. A dropped egg stays where you left it instead of resetting, which turns one long dangerous run into several shorter safe ones. Each burst only needs to outrun the Kitsune for a few seconds rather than for the whole length of the zone.

The catch is other players. Anyone else can grab an egg the moment you drop it, so keep fending them off with your baseball bat while you move. With that defence, you can start extracting Cherry Blossom eggs even below the recommended Speed level — it just takes longer and carries more risk per run. If you are patient, this is the fastest route to a Crane without grinding Speed first.

How do you activate the Sakura Incubator?

Take your Crane back to the Cherry Blossom zone and interact with the Sakura Incubator at the end of the path. Using the Crane triggers a cutscene in which it flies on top of the Incubator and powers it up — and the Crane is consumed in the process, so it no longer earns income as a pet. It is gone from your collection for good, so make sure the Crane you carry is one you are happy to spend.

From then on, you can take part in the Cherry Blossom Crystals event without needing another Crane. The unlock is what the sacrifice buys: permanent access to the mutation system rather than one pet’s income. If you want to keep a Crane as an earner and still unlock the machine, farm a second Crane egg before you activate — the zone stays farmable, so a spare Crane is a matter of more runs, not a dead end.

How do Cherry Blossom Crystals and Bloom mutations work?

Once the Incubator is active, the Cherry Blossom Crystals event triggers randomly in the Cherry Blossom zone. When it does, trees spawn in the zone that you can smash with your bat to farm Cherry Blossom Crystals. The event is how the mutation system gets its fuel, so when it triggers it is worth prioritising over normal egg runs.

Take the crystals back to the Sakura Incubator, slot them alongside an egg of your choice, and mutate it. The mutation adds either the Bloom mutation or the much rarer Spirit Bloom mutation to the pet inside the egg. Mutated pets out-earn their plain versions, and a mutated lower-tier pet can beat a plain higher-tier one, so the mutation label matters more than the base rarity when you compare two pets.

Which egg should you mutate? Since the mutation applies to the pet already inside the egg, spend crystals on the egg whose pet you actually want to improve — a valuable egg you hatched from a hard zone, or one you plan to keep long-term. Mutating a throwaway egg spends a scarce resource on a pet you will not use.

The exact odds are not published: how often the event triggers, how many crystals a tree drops, and the chance of Spirit Bloom over Bloom have no official numbers as of September 2026. Treat every drop rate as unconfirmed and confirm results on your own pet screen before you value a mutated pet.

Crane in Steal An Egg: FAQ

Is the Crane worth sacrificing to the Sakura Incubator?

For late-game players, yes. You give up one Epic pet and its income, and in return you unlock the mutation system permanently. Every egg you mutate from then on can carry Bloom or Spirit Bloom, which applies to far more valuable pets than a single Crane. If you still rely on the Crane’s $4K per second income, wait until your base income outgrows it before sacrificing one — the machine is not going anywhere, so there is no deadline pressure on the decision.

Does the Sakura Incubator stay unlocked after you use a Crane?

Yes. The activation is a one-time event: once the Crane is consumed and the cutscene finishes, the Incubator stays active and the Cherry Blossom Crystals event is available from then on. You do not need to feed it another Crane to keep using it. A second Crane, if you farm one, can simply stay in your collection and earn — the unlock and the pet are separate from that point.

What are the chances of a Cherry Blossom egg being a Crane?

Unconfirmed. The developer has not published egg odds for the Cherry Blossom zone, so treat any claimed probability as unverified. Not every egg in the zone produces a Crane — other Cherry Blossom pets hatch from different shell patterns — so keep running until you spot the white egg with the black-and-pink line and pink cap, and check the pets index for the zone’s full pet list while you farm.
