Steal An Egg Pet Index: How Many Pets and What It Pays
Steal An Egg pet index guide: the 149 vs 157 pet counts, the 4.5-minute egg refresh, what each collected pet rewards, and how to track your progress.
What is the pet index in Steal An Egg?
The pet index is the game’s collection screen. It lists the pets available in each biome, tracks which ones you have already hatched, and pays a reward the first time each pet is added. The same screen is where the money-per-second figure for your pets comes from, which is why the best egg page treats it as the referee for every income argument.
Players also use the phrase for the third-party trackers built around it: IGN’s wiki keeps a checklist of the full list, and a Fandom page hosts a browse-by-biome tool for the same data. Those exist because the in-game screen answers “what do I have”, not “what is left and what is it worth” — and the gap between those two questions is what this page covers.
Three numbers decide how long a complete index takes: how many pets are in it, how often nests refresh, and what each entry pays. The sources disagree on the first and the third is only partly recorded, so both are labeled below.
How many pets does a complete index need?
Two published counts disagree, and neither is first-party:
| Source | Pets for a complete index | Checked |
|---|---|---|
| IGN wiki, All Pets (updated September 16, 2026) | 149 | September 17, 2026 |
| eldorado.gg all-pets index | 157 | September 17, 2026 |
The eight-pet difference is not explained by either page. The plausible cause is scope: Brainrot Eggs cannot be stolen from any biome — they are bought from the shop with Robux — so a count that includes shop-only pets and one that covers biome pets only will never agree. Which of the two numbers the game itself counts is not published, so check your own index screen before treating either as the target. [Unconfirmed]
Counts also drift with the update cadence. An earlier September 2026 figure quoted on this wiki’s best egg page sat at roughly 105 pets; the two counts above were published days apart from each other. Always read a total together with its date.
How does each biome fit into the index?
IGN records eight pets per biome, with larger eggs being rarer and carrying better odds of a high-rarity result or a mutation. That gives the index its shape: it is a grid of biomes, and completion is a per-biome checklist rather than one long ladder.
This wiki’s own pets index holds fewer rows than eight for most biomes — seven in Forest, four in Lake — because it only prints records whose name, rarity and income survive a source check. IGN’s Forest list, for example, carries a Bear that this wiki has no row for. That is a coverage gap on our side, not proof that the pet is missing from the game, and it is the biggest reason a third-party checklist is useful alongside our tables. Practically, the grid tells you where to work: a player who can farm Forest reliably can complete that row before touching a biome that costs more runs than it returns — the beginner guide covers choosing a zone you can actually leave.
What does each index entry pay?
Collecting a pet for the first time pays two things: a Speed bonus and a cash reward. The recorded examples below are drawn from a source-checked list where possible, because our own index already carries most of those income values. How those bonuses compare with the game’s other Speed sources — Treadmill training, Trails and the Speed Shop — is covered on the Speed guide.
| Pet | Rarity and biome | Income (source-checked) | Index reward (single source) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chicken | Common, Forest | $1 per second | +420 Speed, $100 |
| Brr Brr Patapim | Legendary, Forest | $1.8K per second | +1,000 Speed, $180K |
Both income values match rows already published on the pets index; the Speed and cash columns come from the same third-party list and are not independently confirmed. [Unconfirmed]
The same list puts the top of the reward scale far above those two rows: King Snake, a Secret pet in Jungle, is recorded at $3.5M per second with a reward of +18,000 Speed and $350M. That row cannot be cross-checked anywhere on this wiki — Jungle’s Secret slot has no entry on our index — so it is quoted here as evidence of how steeply the rewards climb, not as a number to plan around. [Unconfirmed]
The pattern is the useful part: rewards scale with the rarity and the biome of the pet, so an index entry at the end of the biome order is worth orders of magnitude more than a Forest Common. That also means a low-rarity pet from a late biome can pay better than you expect from its rarity colour alone.
How often do eggs refresh?
IGN records that every egg refreshes every 4.5 minutes, which it describes as one in-game night. This wiki’s spawn times guide records a different line from the game’s own description: rare eggs spawn on a five-minute cycle, announced to the whole server by an alert.
The two statements may be describing two different loops — a server-wide rare-egg alert versus the ordinary nest cycle — but no source confirms that reading, so this wiki keeps both figures visible rather than merging them into one invented timer. [Unconfirmed]
What matters for planning is the same either way: the cycle repeats on a fixed clock, and being at a nest before it ticks beats arriving after the alert. Join a server, note the next alert, log the clock, and compare your own observations against both published figures.
How do you track index progress?
Checklists beat memory, and the third-party trackers exist for exactly that reason. A workable routine:
- Pick one biome you can complete. Eight pets is a finite list; a row of eight beats a memory of “somewhere in Cherry Blossom”.
- Record the hatch, not the pickup. One uncut sequence showing the nest, the hatch screen and the resulting entry is a record this wiki can use; a cropped screenshot is a lead.
- Bank the reward, then move up. Every first-time entry pays Speed and cash, and the Speed is what unlocks the next biome — the same loop as farming speed for a new zone.
- Re-date your list after every update. Both published totals were refreshed within days of each other, and a total without a date is not a total.
Roblox achievement badges confirm that Eternal, Secret and Divine hatches exist, but they never name the pet or the biome, so a badge is proof of a category rather than an index entry.
Which page should you open?
These four pages split the job, and they do not duplicate each other:
- This page — index size, the refresh cycle and what collecting pays.
- All eggs index — per-egg records: displayed name, biome, hatch result and verification status.
- Pets index — the source-checked pet table with rarity and income per second.
- Best egg page — value comparisons between third-party income claims.
- Spawn times guide — the alert cycle and the route plan for reaching a nest in time.
Steal An Egg Pet Index: FAQ
How many pets are in the Steal An Egg index?
IGN counted 149 pets on September 16, 2026; eldorado.gg lists 157. The difference is most likely the Robux-only Brainrot Eggs, which cannot be stolen from a biome. Neither count is first-party, so confirm the total on your own index screen. [Unconfirmed]
What do you get for a new index entry?
A Speed bonus plus a cash reward. Recorded examples run from a Forest Chicken at +420 Speed and $100 to a Jungle Secret at +18,000 Speed and $350M. The reward columns come from a single third-party list and are not independently confirmed. [Unconfirmed]
Is the pet index the same as the egg list?
No. The egg list covers the eggs you steal; the index covers the pets you hatch, and it is the screen that pays the reward for each new one. This wiki keeps them separate: egg records here, pet records here.
Do Brainrot pets count toward a complete index?
They may be where the 149 and 157 counts diverge. Brainrot Eggs are not available from any biome — they are bought from the shop with Robux — so whether they are required for a full index depends on which total you are working to. [Unconfirmed]
